Pete Davidson reveals truth about mental illness struggle

Pete Davidson is finally opening up about his battle with mental illness, after he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2017.

As part of Variety’s intimate Actors on Actors series, the 27-year-old actor sat down with Glenn Close to have a conversation that got quite emotional for the stars.

Glenn Close explored the topic of mental illness, which is the subject of her latest Netflix film Hillbilly Elegy. When asked about the film's message about addiction, she said: "I think it was a very honest view of addiction and the terrible difficulty of getting out of that cycle. In my family, my sister was a substance abuser, and because we weren’t close at the time, I really didn’t know what she was going through.

"She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was 50. If she had been diagnosed sooner, it would have made such a big difference in her life." She then asked Pete, "From your point of view, what did you think of how that story was treated?"

That's when Pete revealed his own journey and his borderline personality disorder diagnosis: "I thought it was spot-on just from people that I know. I’m glad that your sister got a diagnosis. I got diagnosed with BPD [borderline personality disorder] a few years ago, and I was always just so confused all the time, and just thought something was wrong, and didn’t know how to deal with it. Then, when somebody finally tells you, the weight of the world feels lifted off your shoulders. You feel so much better. I hope she feels that way as well." ~Marriska Fernandes

So I know it was Let's Talk day and I know a lot of people suffer from depression, but is any of that money going to help Sociopaths? Narcissists? Schizoids? Because I've known all three and I don't have a lot of empathy for them. They do far too much harm to others.

Good that there's not as much of a stigma on mental illness.
