Shang-Chi wins fourth consecutive weekend at box office

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings posterShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings topped the box office yet again this past weekend, holding onto first place for the fourth weekend in a row. With additional estimated earnings of $13 million, the total take for this film stands at $196.2 million, making it the highest-grossing film domestically since the pandemic began -- far surpassing the $183.6 million earned by fellow Marvel movie Black Widow.

Debuting in second this weekend was Dear Evan Hansen, the movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical. With Ben Platt reprising the role he originated on Broadway, the movie took in $7.5 million. Read our review by clicking here.

Free Guy dropped a spot to third place at the box office. The action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds earned an additional $4.1 million this weekend, bringing its seven-week total to $114.1 million.

Holding onto fourth place was the horror film sequel Candyman, which experienced a 27 percent drop in earnings from last weekend. The movie brought in an additional $2.6 million in its fifth week of release for a total of $56.9 million.

Rounding out the top five was Cry Macho, directed by and starring the legendary Clint Eastwood. The drama saw a drop of 54 percent in its second weekend to earn $2 million for a total of $8.3 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
