Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch) is an incredibly talented illustrator who is famous for his playful and eccentric pictures of cats, who also takes care of his widowed mother and five younger sisters. When he finally lands a staff job as an illustrator, Louis hires a governess, Emily Richardson (Claire Foy), to look over his younger sisters, whom he eventually falls in love with.
